New varieties of wheat – Belinda and Balagura
Breeding work on the creation of new varieties of wheat has new results – after a preliminary ecological testing within the pilot program of the LIST Company and the next State variety testing, two new varieties of soft winter wheat – Belinda and Balagura – were included into the Register of Plant Varieties Suitable for Distribution in Ukraine.
Belinda is a new awned variety of winter wheat, intended for cultivation in the conditions of the Steppe and Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. The variety of intensive type belongs to valuable medium-sized varieties of wheat. It has increased resistance to common wheat diseases, including head blight. Belinda also shows high winter hardiness and good bushiness when the vegetation resumes in spring.
Balagura, an awnless intensive winter wheat variety, was included in the Register of plant varieties suitable for distribution in Ukraine for two years of testing, as it showed a significant increase in yield compared to the conditional standard. It has adapted for the Forest-Steppe zone, it is highly resistant to common wheat diseases.
